Mental Health resources can be hard to find and expensive. Many health insurance providers do not cover mental health care sufficiently. At Deep River, we exist as a non profit fund manager to raise money and distribute it to those in need.

Our mission is to expand access to quality mental health care for individuals who cannot afford it. We raise funds, build partnerships, and advocate for equitable treatment options so that every person—regardless of income—can receive the support they need to heal, recover, and thrive.

The purpose of this organization is to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Specifically, the corporation is organized to:
All activities of the organization shall be carried out for charitable purposes, and no part of the net earnings shall inure to the benefit of any private individual or shareholder.

As the father of three, I live and breathe for my family. In 2011, my eldest daughter Stacy was serving as a volunteer missionary in Oklahoma. I received a call one night that changed my life forever. On the call, I heard the voices of her mission president informing me that Stacy was acting strange, hearing voices and talking to people who weren't there. I was totally unfamiliar with mental illness and had no idea how to act or proceed. We brought her home to Utah where, over the next 14 years, we navigated the frustrating course of trying to get treatment for mental illness. We endured the stigma, ostracization and confusion of finding care, finding the right care, fighting insurance companies and dealing with the stress of seeing my sweet daughter reduced to ruins. Stacy was finally diagnosed (after many failed attempts) with Schizoaffective Disorder. After dealing with providers, hospitals and numerous attempts at finding a solution, I felt compelled to use my experience to help others. Maybe its a calling, maybe not, but my passion is what drives me to help and that is why Deep River was created. You can also read about my experiences in my book "Exceptional: A Journey in Mental Illness" available on Amazon.
